You
may not automatically
think of golf when you
think of Santa Barbara,
but you should. The
golf scene in Santa
Barbara is excellent.
Santa Barbara county
boasts six public 18-hole
golf courses, four of
which are within a half
hour of downtown.
Three of these four boast
championship level play.
The fourth is one of the
busiest municipal courses
in the country (and some
years THE busiest). There are also excellent
9-hole courses with
practice facilities open
in the evenings.
Each of our city's golf
courses is nationally
recognized in its own way.
They each offer their own
flavor and personality
ranging from the formal
sophistication of Glen
Annie to the amazing
beauty of Sandpiper to the
timelessness of Santa
Barbara Golf Club. They offer a range of
prices to suit most
budgets and are blessed
with year-round play. |

Sandpiper

Santa Barbara, CA 93117

www.sandpipergolf.com
Public golf
course
Overview:
Whether you are a full-time or part-time Santa
Barbaran, a golf expert or a golf neophyte,
you must experience this course at least once.
The odds are good you'll be back. Why?
The
Sandpiper says "Santa Barbara" like
the Courthouse and El Encanto, like Stearns
Wharf and State Street, like hiking and
surfing, like fabulous wines and
..well...great golf.
The
Sandpiper stands out as pure "Santa
Barbara" for three reasons.
1. The views are absolutely gorgeous.
With almost a half-mile of ocean frontage,
there are 5 fairways where if your ball goes
too far astray, you will need to get it little
scuba gear. Some courses promise ocean vistas
- few can promise the actual ocean.
2. The Sandpiper is more than
just eye-candy. It is a challenging
course that offers a range of play to satisfy
even the most expert players. It has a
championship rating of 74.2 and hosts several
professional tournaments, such as the PGA TOUR
Tournament Players Series, The LPGA TOUR Santa
Barbara Women's Open, and the prestigious
final stage of the PGA TOUR Qualifying.
3. The staff is top-notch and professional.
Although Sandpiper has something of a mystique
in town that could lead to 'attitude' we found
nothing of the sort here. In fact, we
felt welcomed and like we belonged there
within minutes of arriving.
Specifics:
This stunning seaside 18-hole, 72 par, 7,000
feet course was designed by William F. Bell
and opened in 1972 featuring beautiful rolling
fairways and challenging greens in the seaside
links style layout.
Amenities:
Club House with restaurant and Pro Shop,
knowledgeable caddies, Pro Instruction,
cart and club rentals, driving range, putting
green, and youth programs.

Overview:
Don't let the status of this wonderful course
fool you. Just because the city of Santa

"municipal" should be used in
association with it. We prefer
'classic.' The grounds offer great views
of the mountains.
It
ranks among the top in the nation for action
with more
than 77,000 rounds played here each year.
The low cost and convenient location afford
easy access - even if you just want a quick
nine.
Specifics:
This par
70, 18-hole course is 6,014 yards. It
was built in 1958 and designed by Lawrence
Hughes

The
picturesque facility also boasts a practice
putting green and driving range with ocean
views, golf shop, snack shop, an abundance of
golf carts, and a modern clubhouse with
banquet facilities. Organized playing
opportunities for all ages and levels include
the Santa Barbara Women's Club, The Tuesday
Swingers, The Santa Barbara Men's Club, The
Paisanos, and the Hits and Misses. For youth
ages 7-17, the Russ Morrison Junior Golf Club
